W.O.R.D.S to host State Slam Series I Thursday

Writers Organized to Represent Diverse Stories (W.O.R.D.S) is having their first Penn State Poetry Slam this Thursday in 111 Forum.

The Slam Series is a competition which gives students the chance to compete for a spot on the 2017 College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI) team.

W.O.R.D.S hosts four bi-weekly poetry slams in the fall to choose students for the national competition and Thursday’s slam competition is the kick-off event. Anyone can compete for the slam and no advanced sign-up is required.┬áThose interested in competing should arrive at 7:30 p.m. to sign up, and the Slam begins at 8 p.m.

In addition to the CUPSI team, W.O.R.D.S also holds weekly meetings Tuesdays from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. in 109 Osmond where those in attendance can share personal stories, have discussions, and learn from those in the room.
