Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: What To Expect

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them is one of the most anticipated movies of the fall. The movie, written by J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, is going to take place before the golden trio’s arrival at Hogwarts. We’re being introduced to new characters and magical creatures in Prohibition-era New York City. How cool is that? So far, the trailer dropped in July and we were introduced to Newt Scamander, the author of the book of the same name in the Harry Potter series, and see how his adventures in the big apple starts. We meet an array of unfamiliar monsters that wreak havoc in New York as well as a new cast of characters. The movie will be release November 18th in the US and has a PG-13 rating with the action that will occur within the movie. The plot has been kept under wraps and the cast cannot reveal anything about the plot, but with a little digging (using the internet of course), I found some information for you.

The year of the plot is 1926, Newt Scamander arrives in New York for an important meeting. He carries a magical suitcase which is bigger on the inside like the Tardis from Doctor Who (if you get that reference, good for you). The suitcase has habitats inside and is home to endangered, but dangerous magical beasts.

These creatures are let out into the city by unknown reasons and the US wizarding authorities chase after Newt. Relations between the wizards and the muggles (Americans known as the “No-Majs”) have been deteriorate even further and  a fanatical extremist group called the New Salem Philanthropic Society  want all wizards to be eradicated (Salem witch trials, anyone?).

The cast of the movie is nothing but the best. Here’s a list of them below:

Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander

Colin Farrell as Percival Graves

Samantha Morton as Mary Lou

Ezra Miller as Credence

Jon Voight as Henry Shaw Sr

Ron Perlman as Gnarlack

Katherine Waterston as Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein

Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein

Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski

I’m pretty sure a gangster is in this movie! I expect Al Capone to be a wizard too (imagine for a minute if he was, so cool). It is confirmed that the movies will be a trilogy and Rowling is currently working on the third script. The second installment will be release November of next year and the third installment will be released in 2020.

I expect the movies to be great. They are an expansion of the Harry Potter universe so expect some differences and since Rowling is writing it, I’m sure it will be stay true to the universe it is set in.

What are you looking forward to in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them?
