The Student Programming Association (SPA) announced its October programming Monday which includes various musicians for SPA’s Noontime Concert Series, speakers and even a horror show.

October’s schedule of events starts October 14th when folk musician Hollan performs at the noontime Concert Series. For those who are unaware, the Noontime Concert Series takes place in the HUB, at noon (shocker!). While the series typically takes place in the NoonTime lounge on the first floor of the HUB, Hollan will perform in the downstairs of the new addition of the HUB-Robeson Center.

The next day on October 15th, comedian Jessica Williams will perform as part of SPA LateNight. For those unfamiliar with Williams, she is known for holding the role of senior correspondent for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. As the youngest ever correspondent for the Daily Show, she held the role as correspondent for four years and is now working on her own project for the channel.

On October 21st, the Noontime lounge will be rocking again as local artists 925Labs, Abhi D and JAYDOT will be performing, sponsored by Happy Valley Music Label. Like always, the event starts at noon, and will take place in the NoonTime concert lounge.

Joanna Shields, a 1984 Penn State graduate and technology industry veteran will be visiting campus on October 24th for a lecture sponsored by SPA and the College of the Liberal Arts. Shields currently serves as the Minister for Internet Safety and Security in the UK and will discuss how technology challenges sociopolitical systems and security. The event is free for students with a Penn State ID and limited tickets will be available to the public.

Penn State theatre is teaming up with SPA on the week of October 24th for “The Rocky Horror Show,” a student-run production. Junior Theatre major Taylor Kellar will direct the show and performances will take place Thursday, October 27th, Friday, October 28th, and Saturday, October 29th in 111 Forum. The show starts at 9:45 PM each night and props will be available As usual, the event is free with a student ID.

SPA’s October schedule concludes on October 28th as Suburban Living performs at the Noontime Concert Lounge at 12 PM in the HUB. Suburban Living is an alternative, pop, and dream pop band from Philadelphia, Pa.

For more information about any of the events listed above, be sure to visit SPA’s website at spa.psu.edu.
