Uber Upfront Fares are Finally in State College
Uber recently announced that its service in State College will roll out upfront fares, meaning that there will be no question about how much your ride will cost.
For the longest in State College, users would only get an estimate of how much their ride would cost, with about a $3-$4 range in price. With the introduction of the upfront fares, say goodbye to the math and surprises.
Uber’s upfront fares came to creation a few years ago with the invention of UberPOOL, a ride share option in the app that came with fixed prices. With over 20% of Uber rides now utilizing this feature, Uber wants to roll out upfront fares to all of their rides.
“Upfront fares are calculated using the expected time and distance of the trip and local traffic, as well as how many riders and nearby drivers are using Uber at that moment,” Uber employees said in a release. “And when fares go up due to increased demand, instead of surge lightning bolts and pop-up screens, riders are given the actual fare before they request their ride.”
There’s still no sign of UberPOOL coming to State College anytime soon, but this is definitely a start.
