For those staying in State College for New Year’s, First Night State State College is your downtown celebration destination.

The family centered event will include performances from local bands including the Allegheny Ukulele Kollective and the State College Area High School Jazz Band. Along with performances, ice sculptures will line the front of downtown businesses and there will even be a Russian Ice Slide for the kids.

Since this is a New Year celebration, there will be a lot of resolution activities including a 5k Resolution Run with men’s hockey head coach Guy Gadowsky serving as the official race starter. In addition, event goers can make bucket lists, resolution mugs and more at local stores.

Many of the events and performances at First Night require those in attendance to purchase a First Night button. The button helps the First Night Planning committee to cover some of the events costs and available for $10. Children under 12 don’t need a button as long as they’re accompanied by an adult with a button.
