Things to do in State College: Winter Edition
While students may be opting to stay inside to avoid the cold temperatures this winter season, there’s a multitude of fun activities that can be done around State College. Here’s a list of the activities that can be done to make the most out of winter here.
Ice skating at Pegula Ice Arena
Pegula Ice Arena offers public skating sessions throughout the week. Public skating sessions are open to all ages and all skill levels. The schedule for public skating times can be found here. The cost for students with a Penn State ID is $5.50, and skates can be rented at the arena for an additional charge. More information about public skating in the Pegula Ice Arena can be found here.
A hot spot for sledding this season is Slab Cabin Park. There are hills upon hills to sled down. To get there, you have to drive down College Ave. toward the Nittany Mall, turn right on to Elmwood Street and the park should be on your right.
SSRT- Snow Shoe Rails to Trails
The SSRT is a 19 mile revamped railroad bed. Its’s a family oriented trail that connects to over 20 miles of township roads and is connected to the DCNR Bloody Skillet ATV Park. Open 24/7 all year, SSRT is an excellent place to go for a sense of adventure. You can enjoy the seasonal changes and historic vistas. Visit 2000˚ Degrees located downtown State College. 2000˚ Degrees provides hundreds of pieces of pre-fired pottery. You choose a piece and the staff will sit down with you and give you a demonstration including some do’s and don’t and some options for decorating your pottery. Afterwards the staff will glaze and fire your pottery to a high gloss shine. It’s indoors and a great place to be if you want to hang out with friends or go on a date with your boyfriend/girlfriend. Make your own Hot Cocoa
Winter is nothing without Hot Chocolate. If you want to try something new out of the pre-made Hot cocoa, try making it yourself without the packets! Below is a list of websites where easy recipes are at your disposal. If you don’t have a kitchen, don’t worry! You can try this too!
