Movin’ On, Penn State’s annual free concert, announced yesterday that applications are now being accepted for the Battle of the Bands competition on March 25 in the HUB-Robeson Center’s Alumni Hall.

The competition is a way for students to showcase their musical talents on a large stage with the winner getting a 30-minute slot as the opener for this year’s Movin’ On concert.

From the applications submitted to enter, eight groups will be selected to compete in Battle of the Bands and those eight groups be will judged on originality (no covers!), musicianship, and more by a panel of judges to determine the winner.

Last year’s winner was Penn State graduate student Cecil Blutcher, who got the chance to open up for Sammy Adams, MisterWives, X Ambassadors, Nelly, and Walk the Moon.

To be eligible to enter Battle of the Bands, at least one member of the group must be an undergraduate or graduate student at one of Penn State’s campuses. This year is the first year that students from all commonwealth campuses are eligible to enter.

Those interested in competing in Battle of the Bands should head here to access the application and additional requirements. Applications for the competition close on February 25 at 5:00 p.m. and no late submissions will be accepted, so get going!
