10 Things to Know Before THON Weekend 2017
THON is just around the corner and many students are excited, nervous, and scrambling to be prepared for this amazing event. So, if you’re a beginner and have no idea what you’re about to get yourself into, here are ten things you need to know before THON.
If you do not already know, FTK stands for “For the Kids.” THON is a tradition here at Penn State and is a fun weekend for everyone. You will hear these letters chanted, worn on shirts, and probably see it on a bunch of different places. THON has always been FTK and is will always be valued here at Penn State.
2. 46 Hours of Non-Stop Dancing
It’s almost two days, but not really. You need to stay up for 46 hours dancing and having fun with your friends! If you sit or fall asleep, you’ll have to face R&R.
This is short for Rules and Regulations. They are the people responsible for maintaining the safety of THON. They are wearing red and will the enforce rules if not followed.
4. Blue and White Loop will be running
You’ll be exhausted when you leave the BJC, so don’t drive or even walk. The Blue and White Loop will be runnning for 24 hours a day. Be safe once you leave.
5. Line Dancing will happen
The Line Dance is a 5 minute stretching routine that is played at THON every hour to encourage the dancers to move and stretch. A new line dance is created every year based on current events that make it interesting and fun for the crowd and dancers to sing and dance to throughout the weekend. It contains highlights from past years too.
6. Don’t Swear
Keep it G-rated.
7. Bring a fanny pack
Keep your phone/money/ID/ whatever else you bring safe in a fanny pack. You won’t lose any of your possessions while dancing around.
8. Keep Hydrated
This is very important. Remember to stay hydrated because you won’t be sleeping at all and will be dancing all night.
9. Move Around
Moving around is important as well. Sleeping and sitting is not an option so try to keep yourself awake by moving and bring an extra pair of shoes just in case.
10. Have Fun!
Get ready for THON because it is one hectic event. Dance like you have never danced before and keep the fun going.
