W.O.R.D.S. to Host Slam Poetry ‘Voices of Resistance’
Utilizing poetry to explore issues and challenges in the Middle East and the United States, Writers Organized to Represent Diverse Stories (W.O.R.D.S.) will host the Voices of Resistance poetry slam next Monday, February 20. Notably, the performance is headlined by poet, author and political commentator Remi Kanazi. Other W.O.R.D.S. members will join him. Voices of Resistance will be hosted in Alumni Hall (HUB-Robeson Center) at 8:30 pm, with doors opening at 8 pm.
In collaboration with SJP (Students for Justice in Palestine), the slam aims to draw attention to the struggles of the current political era, focusing on the struggles of Arab and Muslim students on campus at Penn State.
A New York-based poet, Kanazi has traveled the world, publishing multiple books and featuring commentary in a number of news outlets. He authored the forthcoming poetry collection Before the Next Bomb Drops: Rising Up From Brooklyn to Palestine.
